The Input Reverse function of the IO5-D/c Inline Module makes direct stereo recordings very simple. It sets the module in the mode of a 'normal', non inline channel. A status function offers some additional useful features. The channels meter drive can be swtiched to the two important signals to adapt the operation of meter to the particular application of the console. |

IO5-D/c
Inline Module 5MT Series D Input Reverse Section The standard configuration of the channel with record chain an tape chain fits perfectly with multitrack operation for recording and mixing as well. However, to make live recordings without a multitrack on a 2 track system, a lot of switching is necessary to set all the channels into an appropriate mode for such a task. The input reverse function REV makes this job much easier. When this button is pressed, the outputs of the two input amplifiers are reversed so that the record input section feeds the tape chain and the tape chain input feeds the record chain. This is exactly the configuration that is required for a direct recording since the mic preamp feeds the stereo bus thru the tape chain. Besides, the tape signal is available on the short fader and can be still used for any purpose. Status Functions The IO5-D/c does not use extensive status mode switching because it is simply not necessary. The basic configuration of the module fits perfectly into any multitrack production task and using the input reverse switch, direct 2 track recordings are possible in a comfortable way as well. However, an Input Status function is implemented, that is useful to reduce annoying switching. In a recording session it is often necessary to send the microphone directly to the artists headphones. After the rehearsal phase, this setting must be resetted to the 'normal' playback mode,. Of course this is not a problem with one channel only. If this is necessary for many channels at a time, a status function for this task ist useful. This exactly does the ALL TAPE status. It simply disables the input switch and forces the tape chain to the multitrack output. The status switch is part of the switch block in the TB module of the master sections. The function can be restricted to a particular part of the console by a modification of the console wiring. Meter Send In most console configuration a high resolution LED peak meter is mounted in the console's meter bridge above the channels. The IO5-D/c inline channel can drive this meter in 2 ways. The switch METER TO REC makes it possible to send either the calibrated input signal of the tape chain, post the input switch or the output of the record chain input amplifier to the meter. In most cases it is the best choice to see the calibrated input signal of the tape chain on the meter, however sometimes the record chain signal is more important than the tape chain signal. |
