adt-audio ToolMst - the Master Section and Monitor Module
adt-audio TOOLMST

THE  COMPLETE MASTER SECTION

The TOOLMST is a complete and sophisticated studio master section that can either be used as a stand-alone unit or be combined with the TOOLMIX units to create an expandable, mixing console system. The TOOLMST unit combines all the features needed to control the routing, summing and monitoring of signals in a console.

With the TOOL series, adt-audio has created a set of audio tools that were specifically aimed at the DAW user. As always our modular, system approach resulted in sensibly engineered products that have multiple applications, and expandable systems with almost infinite growth possibilities.

Our more than 25 years of experience in the design and construction of very high quality analog mixing consoles went into the development of these units, a lot of the design features come directly from our 5MT large format console range, and from our INTEGRATOR module range.

In fact, processing modules (equalizers, compressors, mic amps etc.) from our INTEGRATOR series can be used seamlessly with the TOOL modules to build a complete and fully functional mixing console.
More information on the processing modules is available in the INTEGRATOR section.

Our TOOLMIX rack mountable units offer a host of real world control over connectivity, routing, and mixing features and possibilities with impeccable sonic performance. Every part of the system was designed and manufactured to the highest standards and delivers the same quality you would expect from a full-scale analog console.

When used with the TOOLMIX8 and TOOLMIX16 line mixers a complete custom console can be assembled with such features as aux masters, full PFL features, bus masters, a comfortable control section, talkback with built in microphone and level control, The number of input channels is not limited and can be increased at any time by adding additional TOOLMIX units.

Stereo Inputs and Stereo Master Section
The Master Section:

The main stereo master has a switched insert point that can be placed pre or post the main fader. The master fader is a rotary control. An additional balance control allows counter rotating level control of both the stereo channels. The center position is calibrated and the switch BAL inserts the control. The outputs of the master section are electronically balanced.

Both aux masters have PFL and mute switches. The outputs are electronically balanced.

The Stereo Inputs:

The master section has four additional, independent stereo inputs with fader, bal, mute, PFL and a tri-color LED peak meter. The inputs are electronically balanced and the 0 dB positions of the rotary faders and the center positions of the balance controls are calibrated. These inputs can be used as effect returns, as group masters for TOOLMIX units or just for any other stereo signal.

Control Room Unit, Playback and Talkback
The Control Room Section:

A mutual release, ten point source selector determines the control room input signal. The MST input of the selector is directly connected to the mix output of the master section. All the other inputs are available on the connector panel. It is possible to use the 2TR-5 to 2TR-8 switches alternatively for the monitor control of the four stereo inputs of the device. Internal cable setting can do this. The L-R switch reverses the left and the right stereo channel and the Ø switch reverses the phase of the right channel. The MNO switch can insert a mono matrix.

The internal PFL master amplifier sums all PFL signal of all connected Toolmix devices and the control signals as well. PFL can be assigned to the speaker outputs and/or to the headphone output by the related switch. A separate level control determines the PFL volume. In addition, an electronically balanced output of the PFL master section is available.

There are separate volume controls for the speaker and the headphone output. The BAL control can readjust the left - right relation of the stereo channels. A mutual releasing switch block can select four speaker sets. Another switch cuts all the speakers.

The output of the input selector is available on the connector panel of the master section so that an external meter, which follows the control room monitor, can be installed.

The Studio and Talkback Section:
The studio section provides a separate output for playback headphones with an additional source selection. The mutual releasing selector allows selecting AUX1, AUX2, the output of the stereo master section, and the output of the control room selector. The CUT switch disables the source selection that drives the input of the playback headphone amplifier via a volume control and a mono switch.
A talkback section that is also integrated in the master section, has a build in microphone. The output of the talkback amplifier is activated when the illuminated push button is pressed.
A separate, electronically balanced output is always available. Internally, talkback is mixed to the playback signal when the TO PHONES switch is pressed. The playback signal is attenuated by 12 dB and the TB pot can adjust the talkback level.
Connectors:

SubD-25 connectors are used for almost all inputs and outputs of master section. The headroom of all the outputs is +26dBu with a 600 Ohm load.

Power Supply Unit ToolPwr

Power Supply:

Two versions of the external power supply unit TOOLPWR are available. The standard version can supply up to 6 mixer units and a Toolmst device. Toolpwr version 'E' has a higher capacity and can supply up to 4 additional Toolkit channel strip units or up to 6 additional summing box units.
