The Master Section S is fully compatible to the E2 and the AT master sections. Five modules are required for consoles with 6 aux sends; an additional monitor module is necessary for for console with more than 6 aux sends. Every module contains a stereo effect input. Up to 8 modules can be installed in total.

Features

Any stereo format master section of the 5MT mixing console system must have at least 5 modules installed to have all sections available that are needed to make the mixing console fully operational. Up to 8 modules can be installed in total, if there is enough space available in the console frame. The frame wiring contains all necessary connectors for 8 modules.

The positions of the Talkback Module TB-S, the Master Module MST-S and the Monitor Controller CTR-S are fixed. 2 Monitor Modules MON-S must be installed in the slots 4 and 5. The slots 6 to 8 can be used for Monitor Modules or Stereo Effect Return Modules SRET. It is also possible to install the Multi-Return Module M-RET, which contains 3 Stereo Returns, in the slots 6 to 8. A master section S with 5 modules contains 6 aux master amplifiers. If the particular mixing console is used with input modules that have more than 6 aux sends another MON-S monitor module must be installed. This module adds three additional aux master section that are used for the aux sends 7 to 9 or for the extension sends 1 & 2 of the Series D mixing console modules. Of course, the third monitor modules makes available another stereo effect return and an additional playback output section.

Each module contains a stereo effect return with routing matrix, 4 band equalizer and 60 mm VCA fader, that can be integrated in the VCA group routing.

Like with the E2 master, a module that only contains a stereo return input is available. The stereo return input is not different but there are no additional functions in the S-RET module.

The other master functions are distribute the four module types:

Talkback and Listen System, Oscillator and Status Section are combined with the module TB-S. The modules includes a separate switch panel.

Cue Master and Mix Master with the master compressor and base width controller are installed in the module MST-S. The master fader is an external module

The control room select unit, the monitor controller and the PFL system are combined in the CTR-S module.

The two or three modules MON-S contain 3 Aux Masters with EQ's and transformer balanced outputs and a studio playback control section each.

Compatibility

The 'S' stands for standard. This means that this master section contains all necessary functions for any application of an audio console plus a set of really important and useful features. The function set of the S master sector has been very carefully selected. Many users have added comments and were involved in the design. The design goal of the master section S whas not to put everything that is possible into the module. We were using this principle with the AT master section. However, addind many sophisticated features drives the price of any system up into a range, that is not reasonable for many users. With the S master section, we tried to find a good compromize between the function set and the cost.

As already mentioned with the E2 master, the three stereo master sections E2, S and AT offer the choice to select exactly that feature set that you need. To make the system as flexible as even possible we established total compatibility not only among the entire master sections but also among the single modules. You can combine a master section from any assortment of corresponding modules. The frame wiring makes it necessary to install a talkback module in slot 1, a master module in slot 2 and a monitor controller in slot 3. The slots 4, 5, and with more than 6 aux sends, slot 6 as well must be used with monitor modules. This is the only restriction.
