5.1 Input Module for
V700 Surround Stem Mixing Consoles
The M763 is a stem mixing 5.1 surround input module for surround consoles. The module has a 6-channel balanced line input for a 5.1 surround signal and can be used as surround subgroup master as well.
The module has six electronically balanced inputs that can process input levels of + 30 dBu. In addition, the six groups are available as input signals. The input selection takes place by the GRP switch. When this switch is pressed, the modules operates as surround subgroup master. The gain control affects the selected input. The rotary pot has a control range of +/- 20 dB with precisely calibrated center detent at 0 dB.
In addition, each of the 6 surround channels has an independent gain control with +/- 20 dB range and calibrated, 0 dB, center detent that make possible to adjust the balance between the channels. 6 3-position lever switches, right next to the gain control allow muting of the particular channel, normal operation at the center position, and 'PFL'. In this case, PFL means that only the channels in PFL mode are active, while all other channels are muted. This circuit operates quite similar to a solo in place system.
The surround input module has no insert section.
Fader, PFL, Solo, Cut, Meter
The fader is a conductive plastic VCA fader with 100 mm stroke that drives an ultra low noise, wide band buffer amplifier. The maximum gain can be 10 dB or 12 dB.
The CUT circuit that mutes the entire channel is post fader, post buffer amplifier.
The PFL system only affects the monitor system and can be used during the mix. The fader input signal post downmix matrix is routed to the PFL mix bus.
The solo system operates independent of PFL as Solo in Place. The SAFE switch allows to prevent Solo for the channel when pressed. All channels that are not either in Solo state of in Safe mode are muted if Solo is active.
The integrated peak/present level meter reads the fader input level. The display with 4 LED's covers the range from - 20 dB to + 20 dB and reads the mono output signal of the downmix matrix.
There are three mono aux send that are post fader. The two stereo cue sends, each with a level and pan control, are always pre fader. All sends are driven from the internal downmix matrix stages. The aux sends are driven in mono while the cue sends are driven in stereo.
The surround input module has no pan pot section; however, each input channel can be trimmed indepently.
Mix and Group Routing
The MIX switch routs the pan pot outputs into the mix bus rails. Driving the 6 groups with the surround input module is only meaningful, when the groups are used as 5.1 surround sub group. The GR1-6 switch routs the post fader signal to all groups in the standard combination for using the 6 groups in surround mode.
The M763 Stem Mixing surround input module can be used with the stereo master module as well as if MODE STEREO is active in surround consoles. The module drives the additional stereo mix bus of the V700 stem mixing consoles from the outputs of the internal downmix matrix that also drives the mono auxiliaries and the stereo cue sends.
Group Bus Amp
All stem mixing input modules include a mono bus amp for one of the 6 groups of the mixing system. The bus rails are assigned on the wiring pcb in the console frame. At least 6 input modules must be installed to use all groups. The output of the group bus amp drives group return busses in the console frame. All groups are available in all inputs. This principle makes possible to assign any input module to any group, independent of the frame slot where the particular module is installed. In addition, one group can be assigned to several channels in parallel.
The M763 is a 6U V700 module with 120 mm depth that can be used with standard and custom build stem mixing frames.
