Since decades the Ringmodulator belongs to the most effective means to the signal alienation. For the production of alienations of each type the Ringmodulator is an important aid. The U791 combines the Ringmodulator with a LFO and a high-pass and low pass filters and makes it possible to mix the original signal with the output signal of the modulator.

The Ringmodulator wiht LFO has balanced and floating inputs and outputs and symmetric circuitry. It has +30dBu of headroom within the frequency range.

The Ringmodulator in the U791 is implemented as four-quadrant multiplier with a big dynamic range. An input of the multiplier is always connected with the audio input of the device, while a stepped switch is used to position the second input. In the SQUARE position the second input is also connected with the audio input. This produces a second harmonic signal from the input signal. In the position INP2 the second multiplier input is connected with the second audio input of the device. With this configuration it is possible to supply a signal that was multiplied by the first input. In the position LFO the second input of the multiplier is connected with the output of the internal Low Frequency Oscillators. This functional generator supplies alternatively sine, square or triangle waveforms. The frequency is selected by a stepped switch, with a range of 0.1Hz to 2 kHz. The level supplied to the multiplier is regulated with the LEVEL pot and is used to increase the intensity of the modulation. Based on the setting of the LFO, phasing and flanging effects as well as chopper effects are possible. Numerous, interesting effects can be created by selecting higher frequencies.

The output signal of the Ringmodulator - multiplier can be passed through a high-pass and low–pass filters with a slope of 12dB/octave. The low-pass ranges from 22kHz to 2kHz, and the high-pass from 30Hz to 300Hz. In addition, both ranges are expandable by the multiplier switches x10 and x0.1.

The MIX knob mixes original input signal with the filtered output signal of the multipliers, it operates as a cross fader and attenuates the level of both signals by 6dB in the central position.

The U791Ringmodulator wiht LFO is a standard V700 module and fits into a standard frame.
