A VERY low noise mic pre with oversized torodial input transformer and a maximum gain of 80 dB offers a noise figure of typical 0.7 dB; even with low gain settings down to 34 dB the noise figure is still below 2 dB. The mic preamp offers clean and warm, transparent sound performance and allows the modification of the this basic character by using the input load selectors in many ways. A special subsonic filter that uses the primary winding of the input transformer, allows to filter low frequency signal components before any intermodulation is generated. The V776 mic pre offers best results in every respect with any kind of microphone and any kind of program material.

In addition, a very high input impedance, DI-Input with a maximum gain of 36 dB is integrated. The Line input is also transformer balanced. A low pass filter and a 24 dB/oct. high pass filter with wide sweep ranges complete the feature set of this universal input amplifier.

Limiter, Compressor, Gate Dynamic Processor

This audio module combines an ultra fast brick-wall limiter, a versatile compressor with a set of special features and control elements and a super fast noise gate with extensive side chain filter section.

Like the U796 mastering dynamic processor, the COMPRESSOR section of the U799 offers a lot of controls to affect all the parameters of the compression and - in addition - special functions like FILL, which is a very powerful tool to smooth the output signal using very high compression rates. The ENVELOPE control helps to handle low frequency compression with less distortion at fast release time and the CREST control offers the choice to modify the characteritic of the AC/DC converter from very fast peak to soft RMS in 4 steps. The Side Chain Insert makes it possible to modify the characteristic of the compression using external filters and equalizers. The full set of controls and the huge control ranges allow every kind of treatment - from a very hard and fast compression to soft loudness make up setting.

Due to an extremely fast attack time, the NOISE GATE can process also very critical percussive signal without affecting the transient characteristic. Large control ranges for all the parameters and a full set of controls with Attack, Release, Hold, Range and Threshold allows to adjust the entire signal envelope in any desired way. and a high pass, low pass, and band pass filter in the side chain of the gate make the U799 a universal unit for all kinds of dynamic processing.
