C41 Cascade

A very effective 4 Stereo into Stereo expandable mixer for 4U frames

The C41 cascade module is the small, but sophisticated 4 channel expandable mixer solution of the Integrator system. It offers a very high quality analogue summing or mixing system with a number of channels that is only limited by the installed devices at reasonable cost.
Build groups for common processing and use single converters for every track and high quality analogue mixing to improve your audio quality.

Using single converters for every track with the highest possible level avoids one of the major sound problems of digital audio. You will not believe until you here the result how great the sound improvement is.

Combine any desired number of channels by coupling C41 Cascade modules and reassign the structure of your mixing system just by plugging cables.

The easy way to couple any number of C41 devices gives you the choice to combine your C41 modules in any way that you want. If you have 6 C41 devices, you can arrange a 24 Stereo into Stereo system or 6 independent 4 Stereo into Stereo systems or anything in between with very little effort. Of course it is also possible to use one of the modules as group. With that kind of setting you can build up a 16 stereo input into 4 stereo groups into stereo using 5 C41 modules.

Use the expandable mixers in the calibrated mode and set the levels in the DAW system or maintain the highest available quality by using a high converter level and mix inside the C41 system.

If you prefer to use your DAW automation system to have your mix at the ready if you need to make a change you can use the C41 units in the calibrated 0 dB position of the level controls and the center position of the pan controls as a summing system. If the storage of you levels is not important you can improve your audio performance by using the highest possible converter level. Both operation modes are possible.

In combination with an Integrator mixing frame, you can expand the number of available analogue inputs with the 4 channel mixer at reasonable cost. Use the C41 devices to premix your tracks and use the outputs of the Cascade devices to drive the fader modules of your mixing frame.

Using a mixing frame with 8 stereo fader modules in combination with 8 C41 modules make you able to mix up to 32 stereo signals via 8 stereo groups. Of course this is not a limit.

Build up a compact, affordable, very high quality mixing system with 32 stereo input with only one Integrator frame.

Eight C41 devices together with an I38 master fader unit can form a 32 stereo input into stereo mixer. A graphic of such a frame is on the expample page.

The expandable mixer has 4 electronically balanced stereo inputs and an additional extension input. Each input has a gain control with 2 steps (-10 dB / 0 dB / + 10 dB), a rotary level control with calibrated 0 dB position and a pan pot. In addition there is a peak/present indicator implemented as 3 colour LED per channel. The cut / solo system is operated with a 3 position lever switch. Solo works as 'Solo in Place' and cuts all the other channels. The output of the fader feeds the pan-pot, which is actually a stereo balance control. It works with 0 dB at the center position. At the L or R position the level is increased by 3 dB. The output of the pan pot drives the stereo output bus.

The extension input is calibrated to 0 dB and normally disabled. The normal use of this input to couple the module to another C41 device, but it can either be used as an additional stereo input. A bridge in the SubD control connector is required to enable this input. This bridge also enables the solo coupling function that forms a common solo system of modules that are installed next to each other.

There are two separate outputs. The couple output is designed to build up extensive mixing systems without phase errors between the single modules of the whole system and without deterioration of the noise performance. If coupling is required, it is done in daisy chain mode. The main output is electronically balanced; the maximum level is >+30 dBu. One C41 mixing devices has a dynamic range of 120 dB. Doubling the number of modules reduces the dynamic range by 3 dB. A constellation with 32 stereo inputs has still a total dynamic range of more than 110 dB.

The C41 expandable mixer can be installed in slot 9 of all the 4U high Integrator frames and in slot of the /e version of the 4U high frame.
