Like the 1U high frame, the 2U high frame is suited for almost all applications of the ToolMod Pro Audio System; however, it is obvious that the height of 2U rack spaces makes it impossible to install 4U modules. The 4U high Frame can house both, 2U and 4U modules. The advantages of the 2U high frame are the low weight and the price that is lower than the price of two 1U high frames. Considering the additional module compartment no. 11 in the 2U high frame, the price is 20 % lower. Apart from using the gear in the studio, it is best suited for live sound. Many processing units can be installed in only a few rack spaces. The weight of an empty frame is only 6.5 kg.

11 TM112 Compressors in a 2U high frame
Module Slots
There are 11 identical module slots in total. The 2U high ToolMod frame can only house size 2U modules; spacers or other subdivisions are not necessary.
The modules are fixed with knurled screws that are used as handle when removing or installing modules. Knurled screws and blind panels are available as Accessories.
Module Versions
The 2U high ToolMod frame is designed for modules with vertical faceplates. The only difference between horizontal and vertical modules is the orientation of the lettering and the control knobs. Modules with horizontal faceplates can be installed in 2U high frames and are fully functional. The lettering is simply rotated in this case.

Connectors
The four audio connectors for each of the eleven module compartments are installed on the rear panel of the 2U high frame. The female XLR connector is usually used as audio input, while the male XLR connector is the output of most of the modules. In addition, there are two TRS jacks per module compartment. The TRS connectors are used differently, depending on the module. With 2U stereo modules, the input and output of the right stereo channel is available on the TRS connectors. The connector assignment of a particular module can be found on the module web pages. Here is the assignment of the Connectors of the Compressors TM112 as an example.
The female and the male 5-pin XLR connector for the power supply are internally connected in parallel. These connectors are identical in all ToolMod frames and the other Tool units by adt-audio. The power supply system uses the 'daisy chain' principle; power is connected from frame to frame. Information in detail on the power supply units can be found on the ToolPwr Power Supply Units web pages.
