THE  MULTIBAND EQ

The adt-audio Multiband EQ is perhaps the most unusual analog, parametric equalizer available today. It is a mono device with eight (8) overlapping, fully parametric, Equalizer bands, plus selectable high and low shelf EQ's and selectable high-pass and low-pass filters. All in a 1U rack box! Two of these units can be coupled for stereo operation. Th TOOLMST-EQ was built to complement our TOOLMST-DYN; this combination could very well provide the ultimate processing chain for the stereo buss for live or studio applications. The TOOLMST Multiband Equalizer is transparent and super clean with a sound that is open and dynamic and allows precise tonal surgery or aggressive tone sculpture.

Our more than 25 years of experience in the design and construction of very high quality analog mixing consoles went into the development of these units, a lot of the design features come directly from our 5MT large format console range, and from our INTEGRATOR module range.

One of the major features of all the adt-audio TOOL devices is the lack of coloration in their sound; all the units in the series share this feature along with very high headroom and low noise-floor figures. These are some of the design goals that were set very early in the development of the series. With the Multiband EQ not only were these goals met, but also in most cases they were surpassed. Moreover, as always, no compromise was made in the design and manufacture of these units.

The unit's 8 overlapping bands cover the frequency range from 20Hz to 24kHz, with a variable Q from 0.3 to 3 octaves for each band, and gain from -20dB to +20dB. The low-shelf has a variable frequency range from 40Hz to 240Hz, and the high-shelf ranges from 4kHz to >24kHz. Both the high and low shelf bands are equipped with a Q switch that toggles the shelf slope between 6dB and 12dB per octave. The high-pass filter has a slope of 24dB/octave, and ranges from <20Hz to 80Hz, and the low-pass filter has a slope of 12dB/octave and ranges from >24kHz down to 4kHz. The input gain control has an adjustment range from -20dB to +20dB.

The TOOLMST-EQ has a headroom of +26dBu from input to output and a noise floor of -93dB, and a frequency response of +/-0.5dB @ 20Hz - 25kHz. The input and output are on XLR connectors and are electronically balanced.

Power Supply:

Two versions of the external power supply unit TOOLPWR are available. The standard version can supply up to 4 multiband EQ units and 2 ToolM-Dyn devices. Toolpwr version 'E' has a higher capacity and can supply up to 4 additional Toolkit channel strip units.
